Rougemont, meaning Red Mountain in French, is a rural community that actually spans quite a large area. Rougemont occupies four different counties, Durham, Orange, Person and Granville! The Orange County Speedway is located in Rougemont, which is the fastest 3/8 mile race track in America. Rougemont is also the home of Castle Mont Rouge; a magical fairytale-esque home built by artist Robert Mihaly that has been the subject of much speculation and lore because of its unique architecture and the number of years it was abandoned and then brought back to life. Rougemont has such an appeal because of its proximity to Durham, RDU, Raleigh, Hillsborough, and Chapel Hill, while still offering privacy and quaintness that can only be found in rural destinations.
